Description

Millions of women, spread all over the world, have grown up with Islam. Their lives are influenced by religious principles and social rules and requirements. These women are often depicted as oppressed or mysterious, as victims of their husbands, fathers and brothers or fundamentalist leaders. This image is not a true reflection of many of these women, however. Their reaction to their cultural heritage can be very different: acceptance, preservation and rebellion. They create an individual and multi-faceted identity, as is apparent from the work of the 15 artists who are presented here. They make a personal contribution to the history of Islamic culture with their work.
‘OpPositions’ is a touring exhibition for universities and universities of applied sciences.

The exhibition can be folded away entirely and is transported in four cases.
